There is no better example of the pure beauty of Karen and her singing than this song. During her lifetime, muci critics sneered at the Carpenters saying their music was "white bread". Meaning, they sounded too "white".

This song would've been utter perfection sung by a much lesser artist. But with Richard's arrangement and Karen's sublime vocals...this song becomes something truly legendary. And aren't we grateful that they chose to film this video for one of their t.v. specials? Most of us will never hear this song without an avalanche of memories and nostalgia. Merry Christmas Darling is, pure and simply, a holiday treasure and a gift. Karen...you're beautiful and always in our hearts!
