There's a reason Chris Hedges called his book on the religious right "American Fascists."

Excellent remarks. However, it was not the White House until after the War of 1812. The British burnt the presidential palace and they whitewashed it. :)

"born out of fear and ignorance"please.

chris7,that's a bit of an overreaction...no one wants to kill all the christians (except radical islamic fundamentalists, maybe). We object to christians trying to force their unwanted religious beliefs into public policy and public schools. We also object when you promulgate, especially to uninterested listeners, your superstitions and fables born out of fear and ignorance based on writings from thousands of years ago. Please, just keep it to yourselves.

The religions of mankind must be classed among the mass-delusions of this kind. No one, needless to say , who shares a delusion ever recognizes it as such. - Sigmund Freud Without cultural sanction, most or ALL of our religious beliefs and rituals would fall into the domain of mental disturbance. - John F. Schumaker
