a drummer's isnt measured through solos. plus, mike portnoy isnt good at soloing. he admits it himself.

at first I hated MIKE PORTNOY because my schoolmates allways brag about him but never lisen to a solo, when they heard him playing they stoped braging about him...did not know why the fuck!!! they admire him without lisening to a solo of him the just knew that he was in dream theater but never even lisen to that band...but now I like him a lot after hearing all of his work really an exelent drummer

OVER RATED!!!This guy know his shit, Portnoy is one of the best metal drummers i know, you doesn't abuse double pedal, he actually plays musically, his techique is fantastic, he would shouw you guys who are saying he is over rated alot of tricks, you can never show all you can do within songs, it would ruin songs, so to all the 13 year old beginner drummer out there, saying he is over rated, listen to someone like me maybe, i'm not the best player ever, but i know my shit, this guy rocks!!!

I find the "over rated" comments interesting. I'm not a big Portnoy fan, as a matter of fact I was enlightened to his drum playing within the past couple of years. Peart, Burr and Reiner were my influences growing up. This guy is one of the best with out a doubt. Those who call him or Neil Peart over rated, lets get YOU behind the kit. Lets see how well you do. Over rated... what a joke.

OVER RATED? HMM! Let's see now, Mike Portnoy has won 23 awards from Modern Drummer magazine, including "Best Up & Coming Talent" (one time), "Best Clinician" (two times), "Best Educational Video/DVD" (two times), "Best recorded performance" (6 times) and "Best Progressive Rock Drummer" (for 12 consecutive years), and is also the youngest person (at 37 years of age) to be inducted into their Rock Drummer Hall of Fame since Neil Peart was inducted in 1983 (at 31 years of age).
