They did let him sing fairly much at the audition, and he came across to producer Mike Smith as the Beatle with "most personality", (with the others muted by fright...) I like George singing his own songs better, he actually sounds a bit so-so on the Buddy Hollie cover...

They let George sing quite a lot, i guess he had more confidence than John at that time? glad they didn't focus on him once they got signed, because George would have made the band sound too flimsy and cheap.
