its crazy how people are going nuts about a pretty well defined musical fact. Latin 8ths are played straight. go listen to songs like one note samba and night in Tunisia. i figured my posting of my previous comment would merely merit comments saying DUH! but apparently some of you didn't know that. well i hope i helped. (also, gary burton is pretty awesome)

well for starters the swinging of notes is actually just a shortened version of writing different rhythms, more closer to 12/8 then 4/4 or whatever you use. it is really just simpler to read 4/4 and say the notes "swing". another thing, however you want to play the music, cool, as long as it sounds good. i didnt really even hear a swing anyways so...
