if u add loads of spice you will feel it the next day. you add enough to bring taste to the dish, not by the tonne as is seen in many so called 'indian restaurants' actually run by pakistanis and bangladeshis. These add far more spice of a lower grade to suit the stereotypical taste westerners expect. This is also why it is salty and overly oily in these places...

well, indians are used to the spices, since they have been using them for over 2000 years...western food on the other hand is really bland (not trying to be offensive)... i mean meat in bread with lettuce? lol

I'm not trying to be offensive, well hell, I'll just ask anyway, do people in India have gastrointestinal problems from eating all those spices or are their systems just used to it after years and years of endurance? Do people in India not get hemorrhoids? I have seen Indians and Pakistanis eat spicy food and then add more spice. I like Indian food but I always half the amount of spices or omit the fiery spices altogether.

isn't chat actually chaat?
sliceofheaven123 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Thanks for the info about the chat masala. I'll have a look at my nearest specialty grocer.
isaidthisok (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Chat masala is a ready made mixture of spices you can get from any indian grocery store. Its like what they use in African cooking called 'all spice'. But chaat masala is a chilli, tangy and zingy mixture of spices used for savoury dishes.

sliceofheaven123 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
and what is "chat" masala? could you put the exact amounts for all ingredients in the area where we can click on "more info" in the box to the right of where the video screens on the page. Thanks.
