I agree with zipzango. Where do all you "tin ears" come from?. I came from Oberlin myself a number of years ago where they know the difference between music and noise. This playing as they say in the biz, is "the shit." And if you don't know it, consider what G.B. Shaw said: "Those who can do, those who can't teach or criticize."

You get a minus one for this baseless criticism. You're an inch short of being spam.

Good question. Some people would dis God Himself if they met Him on the street. Come to think of it, they did!

I don't understand what the big deal is about this chick...she is mediocre at best. I guess giving head to Stephan Grossman when she was 15 years old paid off!

Uhm, have you ever heard the actual Robert Johnson original? This is very faithful to the original.

Less stomping and banging the guitar. Relax the foot and quit the choppy digging in of the strings. Smooth it out, relax, repeat. How about the Jersey Aquanet Hair Spray My Daddy Was a Sandal Salesman Blues?

Who are some of you people? have you heard Robert Johnson? The beauty of his style(to me) is his erratic on the fly approach. I think thats what seperates him is his endless bag of interchangeable licks, instead of a set Rhythm structure. ps if you wanna hear RJ get a Cd if you wanna see a performer go to a show but don't complain they sound different or have the wrong guitar,Rory Rules! pss try to see the Alvin Youngblood Hart (Hellhounds)cover, my fav RJ interpretation

i saw rory in concert in chicago, and i stepped out mid 4th song. and this "detaching" from the vocals is an excuse for her inability to match Rj's approach. Detach!?! haha, what she means is, "oh, shit, i cant play that part." one thing i give huge props to her is when she made an analogy that playing the delta blues is like playing classical music. You can't make into your own, but rather playing it the way it was meant to be.

Every hear Robert Johnson do this tune? She captures the essence of RJ better than anyone else ever has. No - it is not your standard I-IV-V 12 bar by a longshot, and it doesn't pretend to be. Rory talks about "detaching" the vocals from the music and allowing it to move or vary in position with respect to the music. Easier said than done. If you were expecting to hear a Clapton-esque version, this ain't it, and it ain't supposed to be. This is real deal delta, and I'm sure RJ would be proud. |
