don't get me wrong, I like the beemer, I think they're great rides. BTW, marketing dept at KTM were stupid not to give their 990s to McGregor and Boorman, I mean look at the publicity BMW received thanks to Long Way Round & Long Way Down.

Lighter bike? hehh... imagine what he could do on a XR250? Another KTM vs. BMW comment. Lets just ride what we have!

It's more a question of how much better you'd do if you were on a lighter bike - say a KTM 640. BMW 1200 are good for long stretches on unpaved, dirt roads, but not so good in tougher terrain. If you want to hit a nail use a hammer, not a cell phone - results may be the same, but it's both cheaper and easier to use the right tool.
