He wasn't elected because he was a polar opposite then of what he is now. If Carter had the aggressiveness back when he was President, the Iranians would've ran scared. I do totally agree though that Carter was probably the last President that truly understood the common man. No Presidential nominee nowadays will not be a rich lawyer and/or come from a wealthy family. Reagan had a Hollywood background and the Bushes and Clintons are loaded. And Obama's a rich lawyer too.

Jimmy Carter is a decent human being, with the highest I.Q. of any President in history. Was he a great President? I would say no. But his policies on energy, having been implemented, would have served this nation well. He is one of the few politicians who truly cares about people and wanted the best for everyone. I think he would have done better given a 2nd term.
