MAUI: 'Iao Valley Jumpers
Iao valley site of bloody battle as Kamehameha sells his soul and that of his people for guns to defeat righteous and pono chief Kalanikupule of Maui. The river runs red with the blood of Maui warriors fighting for their way of life. 12,000 are butchered as the women and children watch from Iao on Pu'uwai.. the hill of tears. King Kalanikupule escapes through this valley to Oahu where he warn his father the King of Oahu that Kamehameha has guns against spears. Then on Oahu Kamehameha invades under the pretext of "uniting" the Hawaiian islands... and shows his character as his warriors push 10,000 men women and children off the Pali cliffs above Kailua. This was beginning of the Hawaiian Kingdom but the end of sacred Hawaiian culture in Hawaii that is later poisoned by pirate missionaries and corrupt businessmen from America. Eventually the enlightened way of the Hawaiian people is lost leading to illegal overthrow of Hawaii. Kamehameha's children dance the waltz as they give away Hawaii without a fight to American pirates and missionaries leading to continued genocide of Hawaiian people and MU culture. Still hope springs eternal in the keiki, the youth who swim now in the stream that once ran red with the blood of warriors. A Kimo Kekahuna film

the sun shines on those who sing the praise of their ancestors. Their's was not in vain. I don't want to be an unwelcome visitor, believe me, I empathize with Hawaiian culture and hope it will perpetuate itself for years to come.

I think the jumpers are very brave! The valley looks so lovely. Hard to imagine it's history.
