If you have a search for the Tu-95 on here you will find clips that demonstrate the sound....if you can't find that - check out a clip on the An-22. Of course, real life fly-by's would be the real go.I hope someone captures the final flight of the last airworthy C-133 about to go to a museum on August 30. Apparently it has to have a 'military' reason to fly - but is in perfect condition...T-34's and all. Post on here please!!

I am sure it was. Note the 7,500 shp engines drive through 3-blade props only. Compare with Russian Tu-95 which has 15,000 shp turboprops driving through contra-rotating 4 blade props (8 total). I've never heard a Tu-95 in action (more's the pity) but it also is described as one of the "noisiest aircraft in the world."

I've heard and read about the sound of this aircraft many times over the years. Must have been quite distinctive....was it from the props going sub or supersonic?

I've never forgotten the sound of the C-133 at altitude. From the ground it sounded like a swarm of giant bees. I understand that the noise was very irritating to the crew also and acoustic damage was done to the fuselage skin during flight.

It's hard to believe there was an aircraft I didn't know about going up, an airforce brat and loving aircraft like I do. That is extreamly cool.
