Loi Krathong Festival in Chiang Mai Thailand

Loi Krathong is a special event for the Northern Thai people. It originated in Sukhothai and spread north and east. The other parts of Thailand celebrate this festival but nothing like in Chiang Mai. Here is the videoWe went down to the Ping River in Chiang Mai Thailand for the Loi Krathong Festival around dusk. We purchased food from vendors a waited for it to get dark. More and more people arrived to float krathongs and shoot fireworks. We left around 9 PM as it was getting too crazy with people and fireworks. The water parade starts around 10PM, The Land parade starts around 6:30 on the road next to the river. Next year we will video the land parade. We went home and toured our neighborhood, lit candles, launched Khome Loi ate and drank with our Thai neighbors.

The place seems to resonate with my soul, it's peaceful and chaotic, wonderful yet maddening ( perhaps heaven and hell ) I will always be grateful to the memories I have of Thailand and look forward to many more...

it really IS magic. i miss that place and watching this made me sad. i loved la ka tong.....we had a burmese guy jumping over the fireworks on the bridge;just having a fab time. we placed a cocunet shell with a candle into the water. i really love this video. i also never stayed with the tourists.i have a lot of friends there......bless that place.

nowhere in the world like chiang mai. this video is fantastic and brings back so many memories. bless that country and hy to all my friends in that corner of heaven

Celebrating "Loy Kratong" in Chiangmai is way awesome!! I was there in 2005,2006 and will be there on 2007. Loy Kratong is celebrated on full moon every November.
