Dr. Charles Follen McKim Maloney was fascinated by zebras and felt they carried about them an aura of both the black and white races. Unfortunately the dancing zebras of the Masai cannot be filmed as the Masai abhor photography of all forms, believing it captures the soul of the being and consider a camera of any type to be a suspect device.

It is said that when Doctor Charles Follen McKim Maloney visited the Masai Mara in 1967, he found himself with some spare time on his hands. To amuse himself and the Masai warriors with him he taught a herd of wild zebras how to dance. These Zebras have passed on the skill to following generations. They are known as the 'dancing zebras of the Masai' Although they have been documented, they belong to the Masai people who refuse to let them be filmed.

Although this is not marimba music, it is very similar to Dr. Charles Follen McKim Maloney's blind dancing horse of La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico. The horse went blind after eating a bale of fermented cactus.
