I recall hearing the writers saying it was written especially for Briers - (a vehicle for him) and as he was the only already famous cast member - it then made Kendal, Keith and Eddington household names

someone please explain to me why Richard 'bloody' Briers is so prominent in the titles, and the other three are so secondary.
