Good video. Thank you. SKS is my favortie gun. I like the chinese version because the bayonet design is mean looking. They have a tubular star shapped shaft instead of having a flat blade. The reason for this is that the flat blade is meant to break through the rib cage and the star shaped tube style is meant to leave a wound that wont heal shut as well so the person bleeds out.

Hoppes will work, but it's expensive, smellier and doesn't clean as thoroughly in my opinion. I prefer the boiling water prior to using Hoppes to do the final cleaning. Whatever works for you.

Boiling it in water is unnecessary. A good cleaning with hoppes does the trick.

No. I did this for safety reasons because when a person disassembles their rifle the first time I want them to be sure that there's nothing in the chamber. I'm sure you know to check it first to be sure it's unloaded. Then you can close the bolt to relieve the pressure on the spring. If you don't, you need to hang onto the receiver cover. You really can do it either way.

Is it best to leave the bolt back when disassembling the rifle? I usually leave the bolt forward (after checking for rounds in the chamber/mag)to relieve tension from the spring.

Hi Jesse. Glad the movie helped. Sorry, but I never heard of an adapter of this type. Maybe someone else has and will post. Let us know when you find one. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Check out my web site and go to the SKS pages. I did an extensive post on that. I used gas once and it melted the cosmoline but a haze of rust was present almost immediately because it takes all the protection from the metal. I think boiling water works best. You can boil small parts like the bolt in a pan of boiling water on your stove. Put the barrel in a bucket and pour boiling water down the barrel. Then use a good gun solvent to finish cleaning it up. |
