With the entire wall album, you can't just look at one song and talk about the meaning of it, because it all ties together with the rest of the songs. I think the song "mother" isn't so much about the government but more about pinks over-protective mother he had as a child which added to the reason for him building a "wall" around himself. Thats my opinion but please reply if you think otherwise.

Excuse me but the government still believe that can handle us like before using the church to keep us quiet. So I think Mother is the government or maybe media is. Think about this: they (government) put some images on TV making us believe everything is fine meanwhile are killing people in all the countries. Calderón the "president" of Mexico has killed lot enough but he said on TV that the narco did it.The whole world believe Mexico is ok but we are having the worst moment since 1968. HELP

Similarly, Mother is a metaphor for government. As gov't takes away more citizens rights and installs it's own ideologies, programming, people loose individuality, creativity, wisdom, and freedom, all are connected. Perhaps next gov't control will program engineering personality at conception. Quite Orwellian indeed.
