por favor, many countries around the world celebrate this holiday. not all quite the same, but it is still near or around the time of All Saints day and all celebrate the dead.graciasla paz en el mundo
Nenanovitsky (November 22, 2007 at 12:42 am)
that is going to happen, regardless. People change, the world changes.

Nenanovitsky: I have no problem with sharing, my problem is in difusion and diluting or watering down our heritage.

Ok, I see where you are coming from. You also have to understand that messages often dont work the same when in writing. Perhaps I should have paid more attention to your wording. Either way, that is your opinion, and I am sticking to mine as well. Every part of it. You may want to "guard" your traditions, I prefer to share them openly.

Nenanovitsky: I never said the Day of the Dead was "strictly" Mexican. I said this "celebration" (implying the manner) is uniquely (not "strictly") Mexican. ;-) I said this because I believe in the words of Gandhi: "I want the culture of all lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible, but I refuse to be blown off my feet by any of them."If you want to know where I am coming from read my website. Link is on my channel.

Being a Mexican myself, I am actually very dissapointed to hear remarks like these. It reeks of ignorance. Day of the Dead is not "strictly" Mexican. There are many latin-American cultures that take part in this celebration. They may differ slightly in traditions, but the end-result is the same.My question is, what is wrong in wanting to take part in traditions that are not of your decent? I believe sharing traditions (like these) is very beneficial for everyone.

This celebration is uniquely Mexican, I get very angry to see other people (Latinos and Blacks) trying to take credit for our traditions and culture or trying to meddle themselves into our identity as a people. I believe all people should be jelous of their cultures and guard their good traditions which have been time tested and hold valuable lessons.

edster1973: I find it curious that the day of the dead is a Catholic Celebration that is supposed to be a rememberance of the dead and the lessons of death (That we all die and no one is an exeption not even Christ). Exept in Catholicism we see death as a happy thing because it means the death of sin and a resurection in Christ.
