Let me tell you, these winds can probably use the sand to sandpaper your face off! That's what it was doing to me at the end of this video.

We're having a nasty wind right now, today, as I'm typing this. I filmed outside my house because it was so crazy! Never doing THAT again!Nice vid.

60's Freak, this is my brother's description. I am the Meteorologist in Charge at Ontario Weather Service. They are caused by the high cooling down the Great Basin, therefore the cold air is forced to the hotter air in Southern CA. This and the pressure differences creates the winds, with added Mountain pass flow jetting out. Thanks for the comment, but I think I know what was meant. cya.

I drove up the 15 through Cajon Pass at the beginning of December 2006 during Santa Ana conditions. I thought my Jeep was going to tip over! Cool vid!

Hello OntarioWxService. This is an interesting video but, just a word of advice about shooting video: When you are videoing something in motion (e.g. Santa Ana winds blowing stuff around), it is best to have your camera on a tripod. Blowing winds + moving camera = too much motion! Good vid.

santa ana winds are not caused by warm air and cold air meeting together. High pressure over the great basin causing clockwise winds to blow west over southern california and they're squeezed through those passes. We in Tucson, Az get strong east winds as well blowing all the way to california. |
