Iight we not gonna agree on anything here, i understand what your saying about Kanye has been put there to bridge the gap of next generation, but I personally don't think Kanye has anything in common with the other artists on the song at all and I dont think he is the next true heavyweight east coast rapper, he's not raw enough and doesn't have the substance and soul of hip hop behind him, kanye's never seen the graffiti/street/hustlin/beefin of hip hop all he seen is the money side of it!

If you don't think college dropout was an influential album, there's no point talking about it. And stop banging on about classic rappers, kanye was on there as a newer generation rapper, what part of that don't you understand. Do you really think your opinion of hip-hop and the artists who should be appearing on tracks is better than nas, krs or rakim? No.
DJEastOne (July 16, 2008 at 3:01 pm)
Kanye influential? I don't know of any rapper that has been influenced by Kanye, I can name other much more influential rappers from the latter generation of the east coast and as much as I hate to say it but 50 Cent is more influential that Kanye, Cassidy, Papoose, Fabolous, IT, are too, etc. Just read some of the other posts on this video from other peeps, if it was up to me I would have kept a song titled 'Classic' to classic status rappers, would've put slick rick, daddy kane or kool g on it

Yet again you're missing the point about why he's on there in the first place. KRS defined hip-hop back in the mid 80s along with eric b & rakim, nas (along with mobb deep, wu-tang and a couple of others) then defined the whole east coast sound for a LONG time. Then kanye came along and changed it up again, name me one rapper from kanye's generation who was as influential as him?

Braggin about how street they are? That's not the point. The fact is that Kanye is not from the streets and he's not legendary hip hop! To be honest everyone on this track apart from kanye have 'classic' status and came from the streets! i don't think Kanye fits at all!
Aardvarked88 (July 16, 2008 at 11:56 am)
Hip-hop started as a form of expression for black culture, nobody back in the late 70s was bragging about how street they were. There have been plenty of other rappers coming from better or similar backgrounds to kanye. If there was any other rapper who could have replaced kanye it should have been Lupe, papoose wouldn't have fit on this track at all.

Of course hip-hop is about the 'street' it's how it started, having not enough money for instruments that's why hip hop stemmed from beatboxing and recycled tunes. Nuttin to do with gangsta rap, that was a product of hip hop.Pap woulda done a better job, Kanye don't even fit into the main prinicple's of classic hip hop mentioned in this track, he's more of a self-glorified glam rapper. He's from an upper middle class background anyway, what's he doing promoting Air Force 1's lol! |
