Man that is some fine Pickin'! Some of the best ever! Howa bout that great banjo pickin' by Jackie Phelps?!?! I wonder if'n anybody notices that he's gettin' that done with just a two finger technique? WOW!! ..and not to mention that he also managed to get away with performing with Bill Monroe and the band without having to wear a tie! lol.. Pick on Y'all!

A famous Bill Monroe landmark number. A SUPERB live-stage performance by Bill, + with what was probably one of his best muso-mixes of the Bluegrass Boys (amongst a variety of different combo's of musicians in the band, over the years). A tight performance from a super-talented outfit. The fabulous dual fiddling & mutual-understanding & TIMING by the Cline / Hicks fiddling combination is, I think, one of the real STANDOUTS in this very fine performance. Great clip. Can't thank you enough.

yes, charlie, curly ray and ned cline were all brothers, and they founded and performed as The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers for a while. they played some great stuff too. that doesn't look like james on guitar. edd mayfield was playing guitar for monroe around this time, and i think it might be him. and i think ernie newton is playing bass.

I think James Monroe, Bill's song would have been about ten or eleven years old(?) when this film was made. If the second fiddler is Charlie Cline, I wonder if he's kin to the fiddler who was with Ralph Stanley for so many years, Curly Ray Cline? Are they the same person?

i think that's charlie cline.
