If you drove both cars, 15000 miles annually for ten years, the savings in gas from the prius would pay for the batteries 6.5 times. Actually the cost of gas over ten years for the Cherokee cost 8000 dollars more than the total cost of the Toyota Prius; so even if the prius was built without energy, your comment still wouldn't make sense.

There is more oil used and co2 released in the manufacturing process of a prius than there is to build a grand cherokee 4.0 v8 then run it at average miles for 10 years! If you want to help the environment buy a second hand car thats already been manufactured regardless of engine size!!
