Dan Phillips is one of the most amazing people I've ever met. I've volunteered w/ the SHSU program Project Homestead-which gets students to volunteer to help Dan w/ his houses. I've gotta say- it's really remarkable to arrive at a location and see what would have been trash turn into such unique homes. I go by the first house in the video almost everyday (not that I have to) because I like to be reminded of what's possible. Maybe someday I'll have a home as unique as these. :)

What a beautiful soul with a wonderful vision for the world. Wish there were more like him in this world. And...what gorgeous homes, so artful and organic.

That actually brought tears to my eyes. I truly hope to god his dream lives on and on until recycled homes are built in every country, for ALL people. It's a win/win idea - great for the working poor AND the environment. Absolutely remarkable man.

I've known Dan Phillips, PhD going on 30 years. He is just as amazing and genuine as you see here. He has been an accomplished professor/chorographer of Dance at Sam Houston State University. He also has refinished antique furniture and built hidden jewelry storage boxes and rooms. There is so much more about Dan Phillips, but where do I begin... I am glad this feature was able to capture just some of the marvel of him.

My husband and I live on ten acres in a fairly large house that we got several years ago. It was definately a "God thing". The house was run down from sitting vacant, but over the years we have fixed it up with mostly throw away materials from other people. Some of the items we've gotten free: drywall, fencing, paint, block, wood, metal sheeting, fireplace insert, bathtub, complete kitchen solid oak cabinitry and counters, etc. We're solar powered with a well. Awesome. Takes patience tho.
