What's a Warranty Worth?
October 2006 (Medialink) - For the past few decades, American automakers like Ford and General Motors have lost market share - mainly to Asian automakers - due, in part, to the perception that their quality was not as high.GM says that its warranty repairs - those that the manufacturer covers - are down forty percent over the last five years. So they, along with Ford, have decided to dramatically increase the length of the warranties they offer on their new vehicles. Both companies will now offer a 5-year (up from a 3-year) powertrain warranty for the expensive engine and transmission parts that make the vehicle move, along with free roadside assistance for the duration. Ford will cap its warranty at 60,000 miles, GM at 100,000 miles - which, they claim, makes it the best warranty available.-------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------Produced for General Motors
