Whatever feelings and images a work of art evokes in you, it does not mean that that is what this art represents. The vivid image of rabbit247allways says nothing about Beethoven's symphony but much about this listener.Try to listen without prejudice, and you might enjoy it.

when i hear this powerful music the grace, beauty, and raw emotional energy flows through me like the breath of that of 10,000 soilders, whom on the bat of an eyelid would sacrifice their very being to pour new blood into the heart of the fatherland for it only to fall as the lives of countless men fall to their graves in the dirt they fought to protect from the fall of mars' hammer on that, which they call love.

a part of the lyrics states"Alle Menschen werden Brüder"All Men will be brothers...as they descent into Joy, Music, Luck..whatever you wanna call it.Hmmm...very fascistic ...indeed...

Then again, these lyrics are from Schiller. Claiming that Schiller was a racist is like saying that Dunant was a xenophobe. What's next? Gandhi as a slavery defender?

You must be one of the smart people who declared "playing Wagner in Israel illegal" and got Baremboim declared "persona non grata". It's music, M-U-S-I-C. Nobody in good mental health would judge political ideas and technical capabilities at the same time.Besides, claiming that the 9nth is a "nazi march" is completely illogical, for not saying a very dumb statement. Do you know there were no nazis when Beethoven was alive?

HvK's history as a Nazi sympathiser is substantially documented, but political leanings are irrelevant when it comes to music like this, it transcends all boundaries and shows no matter how we divide and contextualise our species, some things can still unite us. In any case, let's forget what the Nazis did back in WW2, as easily as we can forget the carpet-bombing of Dresden and the nuking of Japan, and concentrate on enjoying what is essentially the defining piece of classical history.

im quite happy to listen, i know every little about beethoven and even less about karajan but i love listening to the instruments and vanishing off into my own little world. im not sure how anyone allowing music to move them would make them a nazi |
