i used to find a lot of this stuff to be pretty dubious. i think the viewer or listener needs an experience, not an explanation, to make the step to understanding what is being said by people like Dyer, DeMello, and others like them. whether a teacher is attempting to manipulate for good or evil, it's what is said that matters. if it makes sense to you, you should believe it. if it doesn't, forget it. however, it seems as though some of you are only proving his entire point.

Dyer and all the seventies self actualizing gurus took advantage of the ME decade attitude of selfishness and greed and turned it into money making schemes. They preached that the selfishness going on all around was OK and one needs to think only of oneself and his or her wants.

See, what you said makes me think. I could entertain your argument and would be happy to sit through a seminar if you spoke in those terms. What you said is tangible and I can picture. I'm not against the idea of a diety that established the laws of physics or ignited the universe, however little evidence we have for such a creative force. Maybe I caught a boring 10 minutes of Wayne Dyer. I'll watch some of his YouTube clips.

I agree that a God like Christian God is egotistical, but I don't think Dyer talks about that type of God, I don't believe in a God that moves the threads of our lives, can change what goes on in our lives, saves us or send us to hell and so on... I believe there is a king of creator Energy where we all come from and where we all go back when we die... a kind of creator intelligence that created all of us, animals, plants, humans... that is the way I interpret Dyer, but I might be wrong...

I don't understand, so what are you trying to say or what is your point strungout7777? what is your conclusion of these comments? I'm confused by what you say.

Finally, to conclude: Getting past ego dominance is easy when you realize that we, humans, are insignificant in terms of matter in the universe. We live on a planet that revolves around a star -- one of trillions upon trillions in the universe. We are a species that has inhabited a planet for about 100,000 to 500,000 years - a fraction of earth's existance. If knowing how insignificant we are doesn't crush an out-of-control ego, I don't know what does.

... Continuing about the egotistical nature of a personal god: People who have God-realization believe that an all-knowing and all-powerful spirit listens to their prayers, performs miracles and forgives sins. They believe they'll survive their own death and that god actually concerns itself/himself/herself with the actions and even thoughts of primates on a tiny planet in a universe that so large it's nearly beyong comprehension. That sounds egotistical to me.
strungout7777 (September 10, 2008 at 12:19 am)
kuroisuki: That's exactly my point. It's intellectual. And to say what he says has a big meaning is silly, because what he says is jibberish. Moreover, I think this man is intelligent, educated and knows how to make money by exploiting people who don't really think about what he says. He speaks of the necessity of getting past ego dominance in the meaning of God-realization. But there's nothing more egotistical than human belief in a personal god. ....
