It wasn't really an experimental drug, it was referred to as the Milwaukee Protocol and involved basically putting her into a coma so deep that she was nearly dead. This allowed her body to keep hydrated while rebuilding the immune system to fight off the disease. It ended up causing a lot of memory loss, and she had to relearn how to walk and do other normal things.
