was watching this in a "History of Rock" class, can't put my finger on it but there's something very Punk Rock about this song, maybe its the simple backbeat, or maybe im just insane :/

Actually, the vocal history of the record is very convoluted. Initially it was cut with Darlene Love on lead. Then Spector all but wiped out her lead and overdubbed LaLa Brooks, but underneath LaLa's lead you can still hear bits of Darlene's, and you can also hear Cher rather prominently on background vocals. Oh, and that's LaLa lipsyncing her own lead on the video, not Barbara Alston. The other members in this clip are Dee Dee Kennebrew in the center and Frances Collins on the end.

This is Barbara Alston leading on the video...not Darlene Love (who did do the recording). As most Crystals fans know, the line-up was constantly changing... Phil Spector took the position with all of his groups (Crystals and Ronettes included) that the Wall of Sound was the main attraction of the records, and the girls were interchangeable. So the Crystals had 5 different lead singers over time...Phil Spector favored Darlene Love...but La La Brooks and Barbara Alston were prominent as well.

Darlene Love beat his ass for royalties, but I feel bad for the Ronettes ... and the Crystals. I think they lost their claim, too. Tragic. SO MANY MEN took advantage of these young girls.....

I was scanning old posts on here and two pages back someone mentions how many of the artists "got screwed out of their royalties".. Quite true. Really sad is that Phil Spector, now a sick old eccentric man, screwed the Ronettes out of their royalties. I think that Nedra Talley and Estelle Bennett only go about $12,000 a piece for all of the Ronettes hits, etc. There was a lawsuit a few years ago that was initially won by the Ronettes, but the decision was overturned on appeal. Screw you Phil.
