Jazz and Blues have the same origin. I'd say that Jazz came before Blues though.

actually blues did not come from jazz and vice verca both originated around the same time (beginning of 20thC) two vastly different genres so it's poitntless arguing. Also why is Clapton being mentioned here? good blues player not great. u want great? try peter green. as for jazz/rock only Ritchie Blackmore made the transition. for evidence try 'Wring that neck' bilzen jazz festival 1969 video on youtube.
