The 3-D Marios, in my opinion, don't look like the model used in Super Mario 64 if you look closer. The textures are different, and there's more lighting effects to the models. They could easily be mistaken for the actual SM64 models from behind (as one screenshot shows), and personally, I think they used a completely new model for Mario durring this demo, as to make it SEEM like it's the SM64 model.

The GameCube was pretty powerful for it's time. I think only the Xbox was more powerful.
