I think your over complicating that whole matter, hes just a nice guy who loves to make people laugh. I've watched him in all of his tv work and ive noticed that in whatever he does, he does play for a laugh. He is one of my main acting/comidic influences and i think that he and the rest of the Pythons kick-started the golden age of british comedy.

The British culture has a need to be self-depricating to a fault. To a fault where they lack the sincerity that people want to hear, the sincerity that can be transmitted to others. I LOVE Michael Palin, but here he's lacking the sincerity that he showed in his show, especially when meeting the Dalai Lama. He's continually going for a laugh, which lacks the depth that I've seen in him. I guess all cultures have drawbacks. I know this is a comedy show. Some sincerity would be great though!
