. You can get a lot of bang for less buck in a desktop plus easier upgradeability. Desktop companies to check out Falcon NW, Dell, HP, Sony -- Stay away from Alienware -- we got a 6K desktop with a hole in the box and rather than giving us a new one, we had to wait for our "new" desktop to get fix or a huge restock fee. (this was pre dell buy-out but we still don't trust them)

. It is easier for a small game developer to release a PC game than it is to wade into the console market, so you tend to get more verity and creativity in the PC realm. Since you usually don't travel with consoles, (meaning you don't really need a laptop) I would look into a desktop rather than the xps m1730.

I am a PC gamer. I grew up on PCs when friends had Atari 2600, I had TRS-80. So that is where this advice is coming from. I feel consoles are very linear with few exceptions (ie GTA and it's clones) While currently the PS3 and Xbox 360 are drawing lots of gaming developers that are making console games and then converting them to PC games (like the POS Alone in the Dark) -- usually the trend is the other way. ... more ..

Hey there! I`m working hard now to get decent gaming hardware and I`m stuck cause I dont If I should spend more than 2000£ to get that XPS with 8800 G card or maybe I should just buy 20 Inch S Bravia + PS3/X360 for less than 1000£ and I still would have money for reasonable priced notebok.... Now I just don`t have a clue what to do... what would you recomend?

HA, I do the same thing in the winter. But I am having an issue with the power cord to the computer. Just a hair off and the connection is not made. I think in time this will get worse.

I just used a set of rulers and other stuff on my desk to make something of that size. It does look too big. I am eager to see it in my hands this weekend (I'm going to a Dell shop); I make my decision then. Thanks for your help and support.

here is another thing to see size of it ... cut out paper or cardboard. dimensions are:16 inches wide, little less that 12 inches deep and about 2 1/2 inches high

it is a portable desktop. I go from office were I have it hooked up just like a desktop with remote keys mouse larger monitor 7.1 surround sound. then I just take laptop on the road to hotels and work on sites & play games but YOU NEED A power supply to do this. FORGET about using the battery. so I am not sure if in class you would have access to power supply. something to think about. for me it is good cuz I can game on the road and work on CS3, vegas and other highend apps. |
