Two entirely different songs. The album from Lizzy "Black Rose/A Rock Legend" was realeased in 1979. This song from Marvin Gaye was originally released 2 years prior in 197, so Gaye couldn't have covered it. The song you are referring to off of "Black Rose" is titled, "Got to Give It Up" which is about alcohol abuse. Hence your quotes above from the song itself. ( Which are not in Marvin's song ) It was written by Phil Lynott and Scott Gorham. Same song title yes, but totally different songs.

Actually Marvin Gaye covered this song, which was originally done by Thin Lizzy. This is a Thin Lizzy cover. This song is on the Black Rose album. Check out the version from 1981 on youtube...."I've been messin with the heavy stuff" "For a time I couldn't get enough" " But I'm waking up and it's wearing off" " Junk won't getcha far"....Marvin wishes he had Phil Lynotts soul....R.I.P. Philip

Marvin was the man. Gone too soon. I remember the day he died. April 1st, 1984. I was in 3rd period Art Class (Mr.Moore). We all thought it was an April Fools joke when we heard the news. Mr.Moore was so torn up about it he let us go early. Sad day. A genius gone too soon.
