Criticise all you people want to, but this film is a cult classic; not a masterpiece, mind you, but a huge subcultural movement was spurned about 10 years after it was released into theaters. It's a time capsule back to the hyperactive zaniness of the 1970's and the disco itself. AAAAAND, you people seem to take for granted that if we didn't have Xanadu, Madonna's "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album might not've ever been, either. Don't believe me? Watch the video for "Sorry" and "Hung Up."

Man, so many clunker musicals back then. Sgt. Peppers, Xanadu; Hollywood had just forgotten how to make them. Wasn't till the 21st century that we got back on track. Jeff Lynne at the top of his game and Olivia at her most beautiful. |
