I've met Stan & read much of his work. He's a major proponent of the Daitoryu idea. Personally, I've more reasons to believe Shihan I've met as opposed to =some= of what's been written. There's so much that hasn't been written that is passed down through various Shihan. And so many who are not concerned with what is written & some who write more than they train (no ref to Stan). If Saito referred to Shihan I've mentioned as uchi-deshi, that's good enough for me regarding this forum or any other.

This is my last point. There are plenty of interviews and personal accounts that all agree as to where O'Sensei mostly taught and to whom he intrusted to preserve "his" aikido. It is well documented as to where aikido came from, who taught whom, for how long most importantly, and O'Sensei's involvement in aikido after WWII. The best article that i've read that addresses all these issues would be "Is O-Sensei Really the Father of Modern Aikido?" written by Stainly Pranin.

To BisonBooger, by the way great name, it is well documented that aikido "does" come from Daito Ryu. O'Sensei trained extensively under Takeda sensei and even had him teach his students at the Omoto compound where he live and had one of his first dojos. Your information is way off! Now, they sure did have a falling out. O'Sensei is even recorded to try and avoid his former teacher because of the changes he had made. Take what you here with a grain of salt and look at the history. |
