Biological differences between blacks and whites in cardiac treatment are well-known. ACE inhibitors are less effective in blacks. Also, 40% of blacks and 3% of whites have the allele GRK5-Leu41 that mimicks the effect of beta blockers in heart failure patients, with the drugs having no added benefit.

BiDil is a combination of isosorbide dinitrate and hydralazine hydrochloride, which were tested in the general population in the V-HeFT trials. The FDA would not approve BiDil based on that research, but the data showed little evidence of effectiveness in whites and better results in a small group of blacks. This led to the trial in blacks that showed a 43% mortality decline.

Duster campaigned against FDA approval because BiDil was never actually tested on any group but blacks. The trial methodology itself was racist and flawed.

Wow, lots of racists here. What a great argument! "We're not all the same", therefore races exist. We're not all the same, therefore we must be subdivided into genetically contiguous groups. Unfortunately, that's not true at all. No matter how you divide individuals into groups, by any arbitrary criteria, there will always be NO LESS genetic variation between individuals of the same group, as there is between individuals of different groups.Race is bullshit.

I thought gee I wonder if its the amygdala and frontal cortex thing? Now in this video the speaker presents a lot of evidnence for one thing and then tries to conclude another at the end in a rhetorical cautionary tone. Certainly DNA is not identity in a 1 to 1 inverse but it IS physiology, external and internal. Im hoping other countries with less p-c political concerns will up the bar on this b/c I dont think the American universities are bold enough. I am tired of science being hushed for pc

Theres a lot of concern for who will look good and who wont. Back in 2002 there was a stir on genome sampling at Howard U. where a lot of black groups were concerned as to how the samples would be used. They begged the question "what is it exactly you are scared to have found?" When this was posed (I do remember in one news segment) the response was very indignant and referred to all the racism from Tuskeegee to Hitler. But it was obvious there was one or more specifics they were concerned about

ur a remarkably intelligent and honest individual. thank you for the friend invite mate.ur right, people react very emotional when the race issue is touched. first we need to put aside the emotional discomfort to investigate this issue if we want to get closer to an answer.
FarFromEquilibrium (April 23, 2008 at 1:51 pm)
We are going to have to be honest about the differences and smilarities and get over the emotional discomfort/comfort whatever it may be. Perconally I love it when scientific rigor and objective measurement is not pc. I know presentation is always going to have selection, so what? If there's excessive interpretation its easilly shown by its own criteria to be wanting. Yes race exists, we're not all the same we all have tendencies, challenges, stregths; ignoring real = problems with no solutions. |
