BUT! Michael Stipe sometimes says it was something his Grandmother said to im when he was young which was "Remember Every Momement" This is not very believable!BUT! Also the band have said on many Occasions The Name Means NOTHING!!! and It never Will.

Look everyone read this!R.E.M. Stands for a lot of things!Rapid Eye Movement is most common because the band they came up with a name and wrote them on a wall with chalk after getting drunk. They got the names from the Dictionary. and crossed off the ones they didn't like...It came down to "Negro Eyes" or "R.E.M." so they chose "R.E.M." But REM for Rapid Eye Movement is pronounced as rem not by each individial letter like the band R.E.M.
