Ryu and Tadashi were playing a word game, you had to make a word from something natural and something artificial. They found "Plastic Tree" the best one out of some other words. I got this out of an interview with them, in a magazine next to me :]

Ryu and Tada said that it's cuz they wanted to mix 2 words, and then something Natural and something Artificial, and then it was Plastic Tree xD.. so yeah, it's a coincidence

i think for the radiohead song "fake plastic trees" though, it came out after plastic tree had named their band so that probably isnt true, just a coincidence

Same reason most other bands with weird names pick their names--it means something to them (or it sounded good)!According to lore, they wanted to pick a name that had "somehting natural" and "something artificial", and ended up with that name,... although some people believe that it comes from Radiohead (from which some of their music is influenced). Only Plastic Tree knows for sure. |
