You're right. At least: sixteen spark plugs (list price £32ea); about five gallons of fully-synthetic oil; all clutch discs(some plates may be used again after re-grinding). Rear tyres and blower belt may last three runs. Main and big end bearings two runs maybe. About one gallon/min of fuel on tickover. Just over one gallon/sec on a run. If racing in your home country, and feeding, but not paying the crew, it adds up to at least £2000 per run. If nothing goes wrong. Which it does. Often.

i heard this on a news story... some top fuel dragsters can have more power in those seconds it goes down the track than a space shuttle that is just starting its main engines! and after every race they do have to exchange hundreds and hundreds of dollars of parts of of the race car

There's more than fuel that costs with these cars, they have to exchange more or less engine parts (depending on if something broke or not, it happens very often with these cars...) after every race, then test the car before each new race (warmup) when they also consume even more fuel.A Top Fuel Dragster isn't the fastest accelerating "thing" but the fastest accelerating car used in motorsport, this makes Drag Racing the quickest (and maybe fastest?) motorsport on earth today.

the only reason theyre doing the burnout is to put heat into the tires and into the clutch system, which requires that the disks have a fair ammount of heat in them to apply load off the engine.
