The way Orr played defensively and many points coming off rushes he prevented was like a baseball pitcher winning the CY Young, and in his 100AB during the season, he hits 25 home runs and if he played in the American league, this CY Young pitcher would be your DH, win 20 games and hit 40 to 50 homers.

In the heat of summer, this video still rocks!

Bleeney well put again. Orr dictated the play. Orr created the scoring opportunities. Orr protected his goaltender. Orr was a defensive marvel who was the greatest offensive weapon ever. What more can be said.

Bleeney...I love it when someone is concise and logical. Just the difference between my old Vic's and Northland (Orr's sticks) to a new (back then) Titan..wow..way lighter my shot wasn't much harder but way quicker release and more accurate..I could also roof it for the first time without trying too hard. I can't imagine anyone thinking Orr couldn't hack it mentally, physically, emotionally or skill wise. Every noted expert in the world still puts him #1 on D, most #1 or #2 overall.

Dome1972 questions Orr's defensive play? He was a great defensively. So fast that he didn't get caught up ice after a rush. He could skate backwards faster than most players skated forward, and was almost impossible to beat one on one. Strong in traffic, fought his own battles, and was the best shot-blocker of his time. Compare Gretzky, Crosby or Ovechkin's points to Orr's: They're easy. Most of Orr's points started from defensive plays, often made behind his own net. The GREATEST PLAYER EVER!

Every so often some idiot comes on here and starts displaying their complete ignorance and utter stupidity. Dome 1972 is just the latest. People who can't level a playing field, unable to imagine Orr in today's equipment, on today's skates, benefiting from modern training and surgical techniques, using a composite stick (sling shot) instead of the log he played with...he'd tear this league apart! Orr was far better than Bourque or Potvin, who were better than Pronger, but he'd suck today? Duh! |
