Certainly one can interpret this song the way they see fit. But Genesis wrote the song about a young man's obbession with an older hooker. He's growing frustrated that she's not that interested in him. He is starting to lose his mind...to the point where he thinking of killing her. Phil was inspired to write this after reading the book "The Moon's A Balloon". This song has been greatly mis-understood for 25 years!

to me, this song is about a kid thats lost it all, everything even his sanity, but the only thing that keeps him on the egde of the world and from taking the dive, is the thought of his love and hes looking for her to save him
