The Blizzard of '77 was the worst weather event I have ever lived through! I was in my apt. for 8 days; all in our building shared food! We dug a tunnel to get out of the front door. First floor windows were buried with snow. At church, when the snow finally melted weeks later, the floor in the basement buckled up 3 feet, and split the linoleum. The floor was eventually fixed - different color of linoleum (5 feet by 85 feet, a visual reminder today of the force of the melting snow!!

i was in high school when this occured and it brings back lots of memories. For me, it was a fun week off of school, but for my dad, a buffalo cop, he was stranded at work without his insulin for his diabetes. My brother was also stuck at eastern hills mall where he worked, and he said they had a ball getting free food from the vendors, and using fur coats from the stores to sleep on.lol

Well folks, you don't get winters like that anymore. We had excactly the same kind of weather in the Netherlands two years later, during the 14th and 15th of february 1979.That is how I met my sweetheart and my wive. |
