93: We as Thelemites don't hold any belief of Satan or Lucifer as an external entity but rather as symbols. Lucifer can be seen as the light-bringer and the True Self. Lucifer can be seen as a symbol as the initiator as well because he brings fire down from heaven to humanity.

No it is not. However it does often seem that way to the eyes of the profane. This in my opinion serves a purpose. That purpose is to discourage the weak, those who have not yet cast off the fetters of their individual stigmas, and superstitions. I would note though, that some do believe it to be so within the community. Thelema is VERY subjective in many ways.

ozzzz156I'm not a Thelemite or anything of the sort, but recently I've become very curious of Thelema and the works of Aleister Crowley. Now I don't mean to bash you or Thelema, but isn't the majority of Crowley's teaching Satanist or actually based in a Satanist background?

There are quite a few Thelemites who follow the system, but do not necessarily find anything likable with Crowley's personality, or some of his lifestyle choices.AC is an acquired taste, but regardless of that; his contributions to spiritualism and Magick are truly great.

well, there are those who do view him as you do and there are others. I happen to adore crowelys writings and possess many of his books. I don't believe in prophets......that's where it ends up sounding like xtianity or islam..crowely said it best...every man and every woman is a star...we have no dissagreements just different interpretations...I respect yours and appreciate your zeal.....I too aspire unto the light

In my opinion Crowley is not followed as any kind of Christ in that Thelemites don't view him as any type of savior. Only as the prophet of the new aeon. And many believe that he was chosen as the prohet for a reason. His knowledge and wisdom perhaps? This is a very good reason to take his work into account. Not to mention the practices he speaks of brought him to enlightenement, and therefore, though the path will differ from one individual to another, are definately of great value to us. |
