Simple to control and produce. Control because there were so few experienced pilots left. Such pilots would have been sitting ducks for more experienced pilots flying the latest generation of piston planes.Produce because unskilled slave labour was producing it, also complicated dies, jigs and materials were not available. In fact, the original prototype crashed, killing the test pilot, when one of the control surfaces delaminated because of a defective adhesive compound.

the Luftwaffe requested proposals for a single-engine jet fighter that was 'simple to control and produce.' Heinkels proposal was chosen because it promised a 'mass producible jet' that could be flown by relatively 'inexperienced pilots.' I think they could have made many seeing that in three months they went from blueprints to working jet with all the smashed production lines etc.

(note, due to youtube's posting limits, i had to break my reply down into pieces, and the paragraphs may appear in reverse order, beginning with this one.)p.s. by definition, FLAK, FLieger Abwehr kannonen, is only a defensive article, with Abwehr being the operative word here.

fact is, the represent fascinating proto-technologies, that could have prolonged german suffering at the end, and if they had extended the war another 6 months, the first nuke bombs may have fallen somewhere over Grossdeutschland, rather than Hiro or Nagasaki. Germany, and the world is lucky, that these devices never found widespread use and success; technological wonders, but nightmarish for the philosophy they were being used to support.

I point you toward google because your position was wrong, or at least your statements reflected ignorance of the topic, and google is a good gateway to other sources of information. I doubt any history class goes into the detail of the significance of these weapons, any lesson stating more than they would have caused trouble for the allies, or they may have delayed the end of the war, (how much depends on many variables not in the favour of nazi victory) would have been speculative.

If it had come earlier and had been better developed and able to be supported by a reasonably intact production infrastructure, so that significant numbers could have reached the field, and had been flown by even reasonably expierenced pilots (not like Udet or Galland, but more experienced than the volkssturm pilots that had been envisioned), then it would have had a significant impact on the air-war over Europe.

Don't need to ask grandfathers neither served; too old, wrong generation. We are a german family, and father was US-Army, non-comissioned officer who served in occupation forces and was present at Nuremburg. Uncle was officer in US-Army tank corps serving in Pacific.

These planes would have helped, but let's not forget that while the program called for lightly trained personnel to fly this thing, they weren't very well made, and would have been yet another tragic misuse of resources for Germany. They were terribly unstable platforms, especially for the cannons they carried. Chances are also good that while they may have taken off, they either would have dissolved in flight or the unexperienced pilots would have had trouble landing them.

so this wouldn't be able to make a huge impact against those aircraft? maybe not alone but if these were made its not like production of all other aircraft would cease. yes i know what flak and the panzerfaust is and it could be used for defense OR offense. and why google when you have had many history classes covering all WWII in detail and when you can ask your grandfathers that fought allied and great uncle that was forced to fight for hitler? they know things you cant find on the internet. |
