Lee Sklar does an underrated job with the bass. Call him Gandalf or Mr. Wizard or whatever, this jazz virtuoso is the glue behind this song.I will miss Phil's touring, but better having Phil keep what's left of his hearing than lose it all on the constant road.

no according to Phil himself he says that's an American rumor, that the song is one of his few without any real meaning. He was going through divorce at the time and wrote the song out of anger, and the whole drowning part is basically out of hate; basically saying that if they were drowning he wouldn't try and save them because he hated them so much.
