Superman (1978) - The Ending As Originally Intended

Richard Donner, the director of Superman, had Superman saving California, restructuring the San Andreas fault and then throwing the second missile into space which cracked the Phantom Zone and releasing the three super-villains for the film's ending.Superman turning the world around was originally conceived as the ending of Superman II (1980) to make Lois forget Superman's secret identity. This is how it would have looked like for Superman I (although due to YouTube's 10 minute video limit, I had to cut out Superman saving the power plant and the Hollywood sign falling down). What i remember Donner and Tom Mank. saying was this. The turning back the world was apart of Superman 2. BUT since the lousy salkinds insisted there be a ending to Superman, what Donner wanted to do was this, Superman was suppose to be out for the Summer of 77 originally, but because of constant delays, and visuals, Then Superman 2 was suppose to be out Christmas of 77. The ending of Superman was going to be like a serial of the 30's and 40's. DID LOIS LANE REALLY DIE?? Was the Ending.

For all the troubles that Donner and the Salkinds had, Superman 2 actually turned out pretty well. I think it's safe to say the the Donner stuff is the best part. The "paper S" shit and the multiple Superman shit in the Fortress of Isolation stuff I bet was Lester. The Paris opening in the sequel worked well. I do believe that was Lester though becuase the Nuke in that opening set the villians free, not the missle from the first one.

The thing is Superman clearly shows relief Lois is still alive - 5min 57 second - notice how he sighs with relief when he knows she's still alive. That reaction is not compatible with removing Lois dying from the movie! That reaction shot should have been removed otherwise it doesn't quite work. As it stand you can tell Superman is glad he saved her life but that never happened in the supposed 'original edit'.

"Be safe here son". It almost sounded dubbed over. Cool delivery though.

I like that film too for certain aspects. One, the frozen lake part (very cool), the part when the hybrid kryptonite kicks in and the sinister music plays when Superman is at Lana's, the junkyard fight (awesome), and the fight with the computer. If you listen to the music from the whole factory sequence, you might notice that some of that music is used in the NES Superman game in parts. Try it out and see if you can hear it too as well.

If it's not already on YouTube...I'd like tosee another "Superman" movie where the Manof Steel freezes AN ENTIRE LAKE and liftsthat up into the sky...to melt it to stopan overheating factory from exploding...

If Superman hadn't turned back the worldthen Lois would have stayed dead...

everything you say is true pretty much but they reason why they excluded the phantom zone criminals being released from the first film is because they were running out of money and just wanted to have the first film out there with no loose ends. when the movie did well, then the the producers got more money to shore up the second film which was mostly done anyway by donner

I thought that Superman only truned back the earth just once. I didnt know that he didnt again in the second movie. Or was it taken out?
