It was inspired by the book "The Famished Road". Which is about a young boy who communicates with the spirit world or something.

Everything and everyone we know will one day fade out again just like everything else has faded out. We are all going to die. This song is about a spirit telling us that our days are numbered and there is absolutely no possible escape from it. Thats is why this song is the most depressing thing ever written. Because thinking about dieing and fading out for good is one of the most distressing things that a human could imagine.
