using religion as a tool to scare people and bully them and also to rally the masses to crusade against them is horrible and irresponsible.. also goes against the basic principles or religion such as peace and love and getting along with other people and just overall to be a good person... religion should welcome everyone and not judge and persecute them

I always yearn for people such as that woman to explain how she differentiates about application of the laws of the Bible. And why are 'they' so hung up about homosexuality? It always smacks of some deep seated insecurity about their own situation. But it all seems a pointless discussion when we are surrounded by seemingly intelligent people who accept creationism!

You think you know stupidity when you see it? I'm 21 and I have 3 college qualifications. I'm a published writer and currently looking into phd courses. At least I have a life outside Youtube.

voodoo: nice reply. I agree. Why is it that those (the Left) who pride themselves on their tolerance and opposition to bigotry...feel free to express the most extreme views toward groups they don't like? Religious people and southerners come to mind. And the worst part is, so many of them fail to understand the hypocrisy of their positions...they actually think it's OK to demonize entire groups of people because of their perceived political beliefs.

Alright I think we've pretty much discussed this to death... but I think we've come to basically an agreement believe it or not: not all religious people are like that, but some are. I say we've made our contribution to society. Sorry I think I went on a bit long, best to have teenagers argue than blindly conform I say..that and I'm in a pit of procrastination over a history essay due this week.. Nice to talk to you rod, assuming your name is rod and you dont just have an obsession with fishing.

Was it a general statement? Yes, of course it was. Just as the Religious Right use 'general' statements when describing people they disagree with. Do I still think religion is a platform used by the ignorant to exploit and control others? Absolutely!

By YOUR definition someone who is in the same nomenclature as another who is doing the wrong thing, then they too are in the wrong. If an Australian is in the wrong, you are too by YOUR definition. IF NOT then why can't you understand my argument about you generalising with religious people?
rod798 (August 16, 2008 at 5:43 am)
No, by MY OWN definition I am not ignorant because I dont hide behind the facade of religion when determining a policy position. I dont fanatically impose my views on others in the public policy sphere, as I believe there should be an element of choice. So, I think I am quite fine by MY defintion.
mindlessponderer (August 16, 2008 at 2:26 am)
You're right. Religious people have been and are in many cases misguided and hypocrtical, they have enslaved and exploited others and imposed their views upon others. We are both Australians-in the past Australians have been and still are misguided, hypocritical enslaved and exploited others, do you believe that every Australian is ignorant because of this? Either you are by your own definition ignorant, or your religious arguement has no foundation by your definition. Which one would you like? |
