I think to call Squarepusher one of the greatist bassists in the world might be a stretch, but he is surely one of the most innovative, thus making him way more relevant and overall enjoyable than all those fuckers out there who have mad chops and nothing to say.

I love Squarepusher so much...but I will not respect anyone that says he is better than Jaco Pastorius...Squarepusher would not have the style he has without Jaco. Jaco was the first and every bassist after him has morphed their playing in some way to match his style.

also, whatever squarepusher has in common with those guys, he has developed on his own, he is giant all on his own, not standing on anybodys shoulders, and if he is, its no-one that most people would have heard of.

I'm mainly comparing how well they execute whatever it is then choose to play, Jaco and wooten never quite nail their shit as well as i think they think they are nailing it. Squarepusher is like a machine, sure he fucks up sometimes but I've never seen him get overexcited and play outside his limits for the majority of a solo like wooten, and ive never seen him let a solo drop dead on its arse by going for showboating over music, like jaco.

I am a bassist and Squarepusher is definately among my favourite musicians, but he does owe a lot to the likes of Jaco Pastorious and Victor Wooten. And to say that he is better than them is just plain silly since they all have very different styles.
