i am very aware of the fact that when The Dream Academy did this song they were talking about life in a northern English town, but when Sugarland and Little Big Town and Jake Owen redid the song, they were targeting it to life in rundown industrial northern American towns like Detroit or Gary. It is a universal song.

evlmnky91 - Some reports list China no1 other USA but China has a 1 Billion more people. So per capita the USA is 4 times. Do you think that is OK? America needs to change and NOW! It is not easy to accept your country is damaging the planet so badly I am sure but we only have one planet and one country does not have the right to kill it. Some of us care about this planet and think it a bigger issue that warped nationalistic pride.

I think this was aimed at me - this song is about Nick Drake an English singer song writer. The Northern Town refered to is Tanworth-in-Arden Nick Drake's home town. It is nothing to do with President Kennedy. Also so you really think it is acceptable to call people names thast you do not know on a subject you are actually wrong about.

he was from Masachusetts, which is in the Northeastern United States, so he was from a northern town. But you are right, that is not what this song is about.

hey, ummm this comment is for WillShakespeare. i don't know where you got your info about the U.S. being the highest carbon polluter because according to BBC News, yes british new, China is the top carbon polluter. you need to get your facts straight before you go and start degrading us americans and before you start saying you weren't, "only an American" yea that doesn't sound degrading at all. plus the sugarland version is for northern AMERICAN towns. It doesn't have to be all about England.

Argument from authority is illogical and irrational. It's folly can be seen in the history of eugenics. To declare a statement's validity, let alone factuallity, you must first present to your audience a verifiable reason as to why they should believe you. Please do so, for if you do, you will be rewarded.
