I suggest you close your eyes and LISTEN to the music. You might find that it doesn't matter if he glowers or laughs - the music is beautiful and so is his interpretation. Works for me... :)

I never liked watching Rostropovich He always looks so serious when he plays, like he's angry with the music and the cello. Mischa Miasky makes it look like fun. Rostropovich makes the most delightful music look like a dreadful pain to play. |
